Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Grassy verges

Blakely contractors spread soil full of weed seed, and sowed grass seed too late in June 2010 so that now grass growth along the street is patchy, and weeds and cracked earth are prominent. No watering has occurred. Six large maple planted in July 2010 are dead. On receiving this advices the Council arranged more soil and grass seed in Dec 2010 but not enough to complete the job. No weed control occurred.

Updates

We have reported that 1) about 6-8 trees in this block had died due to silt from liquefaction and need replacing. We request kowhai 2) due to the silt the verges are impossible to mow and unlikely to grow anything well. Therefore the silt needs to be dug out of the verges to a good half metre and replaced with topsoil and grass seed. We were surprised, therefore to note that our tree and our neighbours have been chopped down while other dead trees in the block have not. In addition, a thin layer of topsoil and grass seed has replaced our tree (but not our neighbours). Perhaps the timing or coordination between different Council Departments is not aligned?
