Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Overuse resulting in potential danger to public

Woodward Road is being overused (including by large double trailer trucks) as a bypass to taking the lights at Carrington Road and New North Road. A number of problems/issues arise as a result of this overuse. (1) Congestion on Woodward Road can back up right to the railway crossing where cars are momentalily stationed on the crossing - there is a major potential for a car vs train accident. (2) Car parking is permitted on both sides of Woodward Road resulting in essentially a single lane for traffic to pass through. With large numbers navigating this sometimes single lane a car vs car accident is likely. (3) Danger to pedestrians and and cyclists. There is a lot of pedestrian and cycle traffic around Woodward Road with the Unitec and primary school in close proximity. With high volumes of traffic comes increased likelyhood of car vs pedestrian accidents. I have personally almost been knocked off my bicycle by a truck and trailer on Woodward Road. I recommend Woodward Road be made a "one way" or alternatively introduce speed bumps as a deterent to motorists using this merely as a quick bypass.
