Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Updates

Today is Saturday 23 of August and the street lights were out again in Orewa. This is the third weekend in a row that the lights are out on a Friday and Saturday so is will be interesting to see if they are off tonight. I have phoned the Auckland City Council about this issue on each night this has happened and they tell me the same thing each time. We will contact the contractor in the area to have a look at the problem and they are suppose to find the problem within one hour. I actually don't believe there are any problems at all as I have driven around Orewa looking for the contractors in the areas that I get told have issues and guess what, can't find any contractors anywhere. I believe Vector are doing a power saving exercise in Orewa as they probably think is is full of old people and they all go to bed at six pm. The same thing happens to the power to the hot water cylinder supply sometimes. So for the third weekend in a row no power on the street lights but they are on along the main Hibiscus Coast Highway. How does that work? Is the power on a different circuit for the highway is it? So as yet I have not had a answer about what is going on and no one seems to know. Even the people at the call centre of Vector don't know but you can't get hold of them in the weekend and by the time you phone on Monday all they say is the lights are back on and all problems are resolved. Hello Vector and the Auckland City Council what is going on in Orewa. We pay our rates and you have a legal obligation to have the power on the street lights. Is a health and Safety Issue and if we wanted to live in a rural area with no lights we would, but we don't so If the lights are out again tonight and I can't get any answers again then I shall phone Mr Mark Mitchell up on Monday morning and also the CEO of Vector to get the real story.
