Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Would it be possible to consider the installation of traffic lights at the junction of Station Rd and Burma Rd Khandallah. This intersection is particularly dangerous during busy traffic flow periods between 7.00am and 9.30am and also between 3.00pm and 6.30pm. When turning North out of Station Rd, visibility to the left is impaired by vehicles parked on the South side of Burma Rd, and vehicles travelling South along Burma Rd just prior to this intersection are not visible until they round the corner approx. 50m from the intersection. These vehicles are coming off a downhill section of road and tend to be travelling close to the maximum speed limit. Some vehicles travelling South prior to this intersection, and intending to turn left into Station Rd use the left hand lane.(note 1) With 2 vehicles both turning left at this junction, visibility past them to any vehicles behind them that may be continuing South is limited and I have witnessed many close shaves with vehicles believing that it is clear to proceed across the intersection, only to find an overtaking vehicle upon them. I accept that traffic lights such a short distance from a down hill blind turn means that additional signage or warning lights set further North up Burma Rd on the South bound lane may be required. Note 1 : It would be beneficial if the left hand lane prior to Station Rd for South bound traffic was dedicated exclusively to left turning traffic, and straight through traffic was not allowed to turn left from the main South bound lane.
