Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Subsidance across both lanes

There is quite a drop in the road pavement when travelling to Huia when approaching the turn off to Kaitarakihi Rd. The drop causes vehicals to swerve somewhat particulary when they are at speed (its a 100kph location). On the weekend just gone I was following a car towing a boat (very common on this road) and when the boat went over the edge of the drop it caused the car driver to swerve on to the opposite side of the road. Not completely but enough that if another car had been travelling the other way there would have a serious incident. Vehicals coming the others way with be doing 100kph as there is a reasonable straight prior to a rise up the hill. I have witnessed this type of event before so I suspect that this spot is an accident spot waiting to happen. The road is unlit during night (its rural in my opinion). I know of at least 1 person being killed on this stretch of road in the last 15 odd years.. I know of multiple accidents. During winter the area is prone to ICE. The fix would be simple. There is no road surface broken (as seen at road speed). Approx a 2metre strip of hotmix across both lanes would repair this. MAx depth estimated at 100mm tapering to 0mm. A cut may be required to 'join' the new seal with existing pavement.
