Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Misleading lane markings

On Park Road going west-bound after the hospital/university, the right-hand lane has a "straight-ahead" arrow painted on it just after Seafield View Road. Left-hand lane is a bus lane. About 5 metres (!) before the intersection with Grafton Road, suddenly the right-hand lane is right-turn only, and the left-hand lane is left-turn and straight-ahead. There are no arrows painted between Seafield View Road and Grafton Road. Please provide some more advanced warning of lane changes (eg. a lane guidance sign, or repainting the "straight-ahead" arrow just after Seafield View Road as a "right-turn" arrow). Grafton bridge being bus/bike-only most of the time should not excuse such misleading lane markings.

Updates

AT emailed on 26 Feb, saying the arrow after Seafield View Road was to clarify that the centre lane was for westbound traffic, and similar arrows are painted at other intersections on Park Road. They also say: "It is acknowledged however, that this arrow could be misinterpreted as a lane use arrow for the Grafton Road and Park Road intersection. Therefore to mitigate this, we will install an additional set of lane use arrows after the end of the bus lane. We expect this to be completed by the end of March 2013." So, sorry in advance to users of Park Road who may be inconvenienced by road marking trucks. It's for the better, I promise! Since I don't go by Park Road too often, if the new arrows have been painted, feel free to mark this issue as fixed.
