Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Congestion

Between 5.30 and 6.00pm each evening, the traffic coming off the Southern Motorway via the new Barrington Street exit is backed up for at least three changes of lights, causing traffic congestion right back to the exit. When the lights turn green, the time is too short, and only four vehicles are able to turn right into Barrington Street before the lights turn amber. There is plenty of room for more cars to turn right and the light at the next intersection almost immediately turns green also, allowing free flow of traffic down Barrington Street towards Cashmere. The timing sequence needs to be adjusted so that more vehicles are allowed to exit off the motorway.
