Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

I was called by a rate payer to go and have a look at a stretch of this road from Smarts down to the bottom of the hill. He said it was a disgrace and it was. You could literally see the tar seal running down the hill. It is also severely rutted and the poor car owners are going to have their vehicles covered in tar. This is the same section of road that I mentioned at a recent council meeting where Inframax were required to come back and do remedial work only a matter of months after they had done rehabilitation. This needs urgent attention and is very disappointing.

Thank you for your enquiry. Your request 163427 has been reviewed by one of our friendly Customer Services staff and will assigned to the appropiate department.

Request 163427 closed at Waitomo District Council. Thank you for your notification. Oparure Road was inspected by WDC and Roading Contractor and photos taken. The observation was that there had been bleeding bitumen the day prior, but this was being effectively managed with a spread of dry chip to soak up the bleeding bitumen. Signage is in place. There has been no identification of bleeding bitumen contamination to vehicles, or a rutting issue apart from chip coming off in small areas. The base coarse was not damaged and the contractor will seal over these areas to water proof the road as soon as possible. In the interim, dry chip will be spread over the areas where bitumen bleeding occurs.
