Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Its our footpath not their road!

Deep down I hate 'J' walking, but this blows me away, it has been there for some time now, but still people are happy to 'J' walk and not complain about it (as I say who gives a hoot about safety), it illustrates how pedestrians are treated as second class citizens. The controlled pedestrians can not walk across the “driveway” until pedestrians have the opportunity to cross either Remuera road or Nuffield street (not shown to the left of the photo). After I took this photo and pressed the “I want to cross” button I safely walked across and had a good minute to wait before the “you can cross” indicator came up. In my opinion the two controlled crossings should be unlinked, so pedestrians have the green light to walk the driveway most of the time (reverse to what they get now) and are only stopped when motorist want to come out of the car park or when motorist coming down Remuera road want to make a right turn into the car park. It would save motorist getting stressed out when they get the green light to leave the driveway (car park) and they have a 'J' walker walking in front of them. In the red box is a sign “Turning traffic give way to pedestrians” just like issue 2166 the sign has been turned to face pedestrians and not facing the turning traffic, unlike issue 2166 the sign is in much better condition. Motorist coming out of Nuffield street or turn left into the car park would have to wait for pedestrians to get out of the way.
