Taking a break...

FixMyStreet is going offline shortly, probably permanently. The software is old and needs a complete rewrite, the site is being bombarded by spammers, and it is debatable whether councils are receiving and/or acting on FixMyStreet reports.

As of now, it is not possible to post new issues, or updates to published issues.

If you have submitted on FixMyStreet, thank you for playing a part in one of Aotearoa/New Zealand's early civic tech projects.

Feilding Transfer Station Service

The staff at the Fielding Transfer Station are not charging in accordance with published fees. Each time I mow the lawn and weed the garden I fill refuse bags (I reuse them) with the green waste and take it down to the Fielding Transfer Station. On the sign outside (and in the current fees and charges booklet on your website) it's $1 per 60L refuse bag of green waste but I am routinely required to argue not paying more. Today I took four bags to the station and I was required to drive around again and have the car weighed, at a total of 30kg for the four bags. The woman at the window said she would put it through as a small car load at $5. I disagreed and insisted paying $4 as that was the published fee, she then described how others were abusing the system and bringing car loads of concrete or overloaded refuse bags - this dragged on meanwhile two other vehicles were queuing behind me. She did relent, but only after I pointed out my load was not excessive and perfectly fit the description of a $1 bag. It's not the money, my point is mowing the lawns is a pleasant task compared to having to drop my lawn clippings at the transfer station afterwards and scenarios such as the one I've described are routine. It's unacceptable that I should have to justify what I pay each and every time I take my lawn clippings to the Transfer Station when the fees are clearly listed on the sign out front. Please address this issue by either directing the staff to honour the listed fees, or changing the sign to reflect weight limits for bags (or whatever detail is required) to alleviate these consistent, unpleasant interchanges.
